skinny sistas & healthy habits

Ignorance frustrates me. Ignorance and loud noises. Oh man. Don't get me started on loud noises. I just can't... I just can't think! I wonder what Descartes would say? You know, the whole I think, therefore I am shebang? Do I cease to exist during loud noises? Does my existence depend on the mercy of my DJ?

Whoa, that escalated slowly in the wrong direction.

What I'm meaning to get at with this post is the difference between healthy and skinny. If you're living under a rock or don't have Instagram, there is a massive move towards health-oriented behaviours. Many people seem to be following this trend without actually educating themselves. I work with some of these people. It really irks me when skinny is confused with healthy. They are sooo very far from being the same thing. So very far.

Exercising while eating junk food may help you lose weight, but it won't make you healthy. The amount of chemicals and artificial crap that's stuffed into junk food is simply beyond comprehension. It's like trying to imagine the expanse of the universe. Good luck, you know? The effects this shit has on your brain and/or body may not be visible for years to come, but the chances of an eventual negative outcome are high. Another analogy: not everyone that smokes cigarettes gets cancer or dies young, this doesn't mean smoking isn't damaging your temple, Holmes.

One of my colleagues from work recently posted a Facebook status updating friends on her weight-loss progress. She tried to make a point of highlighting the fact that she achieved her results through exercise and not through eating "healthy" (her use of quote marks on the word). Say whaaaat? Eating healthy ain't gonna make you skinny or muscly, playa! Eating healthy will improve your h.e.a.l.t.h. Reduce your chances of getting diseases and illnesses and such, now and in the future.

Man, was I irked.

There's really not much more to say on this. Well, there is. But the point is: Avoid posting ignorant things on the internet. Although if you knew they were ignorant, you wouldn't post them. But I guess that wouldn't make you ignorant?
